Joseph Henry Aston was born on 5 September 1897.

 

In August 1915 Aston went to work for London County & Westminster Bank, when he was 17 years old. During the First World War, he left his post at the bank's Ilford branch to join the army. By the time of his death in March 1918 he was serving as a Private in the Royal Fusiliers.

 

Private Aston was killed on active service in France on 22 March 1918. He was 20 years old.

 

Joseph Aston is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Ilford branch.
