Ronald Andrew was born on 22 August 1897, the son of Edwin and Margaret Alice Andrew. In October 1913 he went to work for Manchester & County Bank, and by 1916 was a clerk at its Waterfoot branch.

 

In September 1916 Andrew joined the army, serving initially in the King's Shropshire Light Infantry and later in the Cheshire Regiment. Private Ronald Andrew was killed in action in France on 13 June 1917. He was 19 years old.

A former pupil of the old Newchurch Grammar School. Remembered on the 1914 -18 Roll of Honour at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School, Rossendale. Dulce et Decoram est Pro Patria Mori.
