William Robert Anthony was born in Denio, Caernarvonshire in 1893, the son of William Anthony, a draper. He worked for National Provincial Bank of England as a clerk at its Wrexham branch.

 

During the First World War Anthony joined the army, serving as a Lance Corporal in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France on 1 February 1917. He was 24 years old.
