Arthur Wentworth Bayliss was born on 20 July 1893, the son of Edward Swayn Bayliss and his wife Sophia Alice Bayliss. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its head office in Princes Street, London. He was a member of the bank's staff sports club.

 

Bayliss volunteered for the army in August 1914. He served as a Lance Corporal in the London Regiment, and died on 16 November 1916 of wounds received months earlier at St Eloi. He was 23 years old.

 

Arthur Bayliss is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office and on another held at NatWest Group Archives.
