Charles Singleton Bland was born in Howden, East Yorkshire, in 1897, the son of Charles Bland, a grocer, and his wife Mary Hannah. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Dewsbury branch.

 

During the First World War he joined the army, serving as a Rifleman in the King's Royal Rifle Corps. He died in France on 15 September 1916. He was 19 years old.

 

Charles Bland is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
