Charles Wayne Brampton was born on 27 June 1890, the son of Stanley James Brampton and his wife Mary. In September 1906, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co as a junior at its Stone branch. He transferred to Macclesfield branch in 1910; was promoted to clerk in 1911; transferred to Nantwich branch in 1913; and to the bank's head office in Manchester in 1914.

 

In November 1914 Brampton joined the army, serving as a Private in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He was killed in action in Palestine on 6 November 1917. He was 27 years old.
