Charles Henry Ardley Bridge was born on 24 March 1899, the son of Stephen Ardley Bridge and his wife Sarah Elizabeth. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its London Princes Street office.

 

During the First World War Bridge attested for military service when he was still only 16, and was mobilised to a training reserve battalion a month after his 18th birthday, in April 1917. He transferred to the Royal Flying Corps in October 1917, and was commissioned two months later.

 

Second Lieutenant Bridge of the Royal Air Force was killed on 31 August 1918. He was 19 years old.

 

Charles Bridge is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
