Charles Sydney Bullock was born on 15 May 1891, the son of Harry and Emma Jane Bullock. He worked for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co, intially as a junior. He was promoted to a clerkship in 1911.

 

In July 1916 Bullock left his job as a clerk at the bank's Crewe branch to go on military service as a Private in The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment), and then the Royal Fusiliers. He was later commissioned into the Cheshire Regiment. Second Lieutenant Charles Sydney Bullock died of wounds in France on 6 September 1918. He was 27 years old and left a widow, Edith, whom he had married in 1915.
