Charles Edward Butt was born on 20 November 1891. He started working for Parr's Bank in February 1912.

 

During the First World War Butt left his job at the bank's Bristol Clifton Queen's Road branch to join the army. By 1918 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Gloucestershire Regiment. He was killed in action on the Somme on 4 April 1918. He was 26 years old and left a widow, Gladys.
