Eric Harold Belchamber was born on 19 December 1895, the son of Harold Chetwode Belchamber, a bank worker, and his wife Agnes Jane. In February 1914 Belchamber went to work for his father's employer, London County & Westminster Bank.

 

During the First World War Belchamber left his job at the bank's Croydon branch to join the army, serving as a Private in the Royal Fusiliers. Private Belchamber was killed in action on 22 March 1918. He was 22 years old.

 

Eric Belchamber is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Croydon High Street branch.
