George Bebbington

George Arthur Bebbington was born in Knutsford in August 1883, the son of George William Bebbington and his wife Alice. In about 1910 he went to work for Parr's Bank at its Garston branch.

 

On 11 September 1914 Bebbington volunteered for the army, serving as a Private, and later a Lance Corporal, in The King's (Liverpool Regiment). He was killed in action on the Somme on 30 July 1916. He was 32 years old.

 

George Bebbington is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Liverpool Allerton Road branch.

The life and service details of this man can be found on the digital memorial of the Imperial War Museum’s site ‘Lives of the First World War’ in the community entitled ‘Knutsfordians’.
