George Parker Bonsfield Billington was born in Arnside, Westmoreland, on 30 December 1894, the son of Richard Henry Billington, a decorator. His mother Emily died while he was still a baby, and in 1896 his father married Dora Moorhouse.

 

Billington started work for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co in December 1913, initially as a junior at its Kendal branch. He transferred to Grange-over-Sands branch in 1915, and was promoted to clerk in 1918.

 

In December 1915 Billington left the bank to join the army, serving as a Private in the Royal Fusiliers. He died in France on 19 July 1918. He was 23 years old.
