George William Board was born in Surrey in 1897, the son of John Frederick Board and his wife Janet. In May 1915 he started work as a clerk at Coutts & Co, London.

 

During the First World War Board joined the army. He was commissioned into the East Surrey Regiment in October 1915. In November 1916 he was attached to the Royal Flying Corps and served in France from June 1917.

 

Second Lieutenant George William Board was killed in action in France on 30 November 1917. He was 20 years old.

 

George Board is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Coutts & Co, London 440 Strand.
