Harold Young Bown was born in 1895, the son of Charles Alfred Bown and his wife Edith. Both parents died by the time Bown was five, and he was raised by adoptive parents William and Louisa Twitchin.

 

Bown worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank as a clerk in its Alresford branch. During the First World War he left the bank to join the army, serving as a Private in the Hampshire Regiment. He died in Mesopotamia on 20 June 1915. He was 20 years old.

 

Harold Bown is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
