Harry Boyne

Bank: National Provincial Bank of England

Place of work: London office

Died: 21 July 1916

Harry Horace Boyne, originally named Harry Horace Bugg, was born in Dorset in 1887, the son of Fred John Bugg, a farmer, and his wife Sarah. At some point in early adulthood he changed his surname from Bugg to Boyne. He worked for National Provincial Bank of England at its Totnes branch and, later, at London office.

Outside work Boyne was a territorial soldier, a member of the Suffolk Regiment. When war broke out in 1914 he was mobilised, leaving the bank to go on active service. In March 1915 he was commissioned into the Suffolk Regiment.

Second Lieutenant Boyne died in France on 21 July 1916 of wounds received in action. He was 29 years old.

Harry Boyne is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
