Harry Bracewell was born in Blackburn on 28 March 1894, the son of Willie and Rosa Bracewell. In November 1910, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co. He was promoted to a clerkship in 1915.

 

In October 1915 Bracewell left his job at the bank's Darwen branch to join the army, initially as a Private in the London Regiment. He was posted to France in April 1916. In April 1917 he was commissioned into the Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment). Second Lieutenant Harry Bracewell died in France on 21 September 1917, of wounds received in action the previous day. He was 23 years old.
