Henry Burton

Henry Chambers Burton was born in Chelsea on 27 August 1883, the son of Henry John Burton, a clerk, and his wife Mary Ann. In March 1903, when he was 19 years old, Burton went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank, and Burton became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

 

In June 1916 Burton left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Clapham Junction branch to join the army, serving as a Private in The Buffs (East Kent Regiment).

 

Private Burton died on 6 March 1917 from wounds received in action in France. He was 33 years old and left a widow, Lilian, whom he had married on Christmas Day 1908.
