John Benyon

Bank: Parr’s Bank

Place of work: Belper branch

Died: 29 November 1918

John Clement Benyon was born in 1897, the son of John Benyon, a railway clerk, and his wife Millicent. In September 1913 he went to work for Crompton & Evans' Union Bank at its Derby branch. That bank was acquired by Parr's Bank in 1914, and Benyon became an employee of the much-enlarged merged bank.

In August 1915 Benyon left his job in the bank's Belper branch to go on military service as a Private in the Derbyshire Yeomanry. He died of dysentery at Salonika, Greece on 29 November 1918, more than two weeks after the signing of the armistice that ended the First World War. He was 21 years old.
