Oliver Herbert Ball was born on 13 August 1891, the son of Alfred Holmes Ball, a laundry manager, and his wife Emma. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Nottingham Smiths Bank branch.

 

During the First World War Ball joined the army. Second Lieutenant Oliver Herbert Ball of the Yorkshire Regiment died in France on 28 September 1916. He was 25 years old.

 

Oliver Ball is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
