Peter Edwin Beatton was born in Scrabster, Caithness, in May 1886, the son of David Beatton, a customs officer, and his wife Margaret. He grew up in Duffus, Moray.
Beatton worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland, and by 1915 was accountant at its Broughty Ferry branch. He joined the army in December 1915, initially as a Private in the Royal Garrison Artillery. In December 1916 he was promoted to Corporal. He went to France in January 1917, and was killed in action on 25 July 1917. He was 31 years old.
Peter Beatton is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
