Stanley Benson was born on 26 March 1890, the son of Michael and Amelia Benson. He was educated at St Clement's Church Day School, Urmston. In August 1906, when he was 16 years old, he started working for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co.

 

In November 1914 Benson left his job at the bank's head office to join the army, serving as a Lance Corporal in the Royal Army Medical Corps. He was awarded the Military Medal in September 1916, and died in France on 3 May 1917 of wounds received in action. He was 27 years old.

Remembering Stanley Benson, who is buried in Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun, France, alongside my great-great-uncle, Harry Knox. Rest in peace.
