Thomas Bainton

Thomas Walter Peveril Bainton was born in Yorkshire on 17 December 1893, the son of Thomas and Lydia Kate Bainton. He was educated at Christ's Hospital, Horsham.

 

In December 1910, on his 17th birthday, Bainton went to work for London County & Westminster Bank. Two years later his younger brother Herbert also came to work for the bank.

 

During the first months of the First World War Bainton left his job as a clerk at the bank's Godalming branch to join the army, serving in The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment). Serjeant Bainton died in the Dardanelles on 14 August 1915, aged 21. His younger brother Herbert joined the army the following year, and died in 1918.
