Walter George Pym Brown was born on 3 February 1892, the son of John Walter Pym Brown and his wife Julia Alice.

 

In March 1909, when he was 17 years old, Brown went to work for London & County Bank. Later that year, London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank, and Brown became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

 

Early in the First World War Brown left his job in the bank's Cambridge branch to go on military service as a Private in the Rifle Brigade. He was killed in action in Belgium on 9 May 1915. He was 23 years old.

 

Walter Brown is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Cambridge Market Street branch.
