William Brown was born on 8 October 1897, the son of John and Mary Brown. He went to work for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co in June 1915, working initially at its Preston branch. He was transferred to Kirkham branch later in 1915 and to Carnforth branch in 1916.

 

In October 1916 brown left the bank to go on military service. Gunner Brown of the Royal Field Artillery was killed in action in France on 25 July 1917. He was 19 years old.
