Charles Richard Stewart Coppack was born in 1892, the son of Frank Stewart Coppack, a chartered accountant, and his wife Emily Jane. From about 1909 he worked for Parr's Bank.

 

In September 1914 Coppack left his job at the bank's London Cannon Street branch to join the army, serving initially as a Private in the Seaforth Highlanders. He was posted to France in May 1915. In July 1917 he was commissioned into the Royal Fusiliers. Second Lieutenant Coppack was killed in action in France on 25 March 1918. He was 25 years old.
