Edward Harold Crowther was born on 10 January 1898. In July 1915, when he was 17 years old, Crowther went to work for Manchester & County Bank.

In September 1916 Crowther left his job at the bank's Blackpool South Shore branch to go on military service. Private Crowther of the East Lancashire Regiment was killed in action in France on 27 May 1918. He was 20 years old.
