Frederick Clarke

Bank: Parr's Bank

Place of work: Jersey branch

Died: 29 June 1915

Frederick John Noel Clarke was born in October 1895, the son of Frederick Charles Philip Clarke and his wife Minnie Jane. He was educated at Victoria College, Jersey, and was a keen sportsman, playing for the Jersey Island rugby fifteen. In about 1912 Clarke went to work for Parr's Bank at its Jersey branch.

Clarke was an officer in the Royal Militia of the Island of Jersey, but on the outbreak of war he resigned from the militia in order to volunteer for regular army officer training. He completed his training at Sandhurst in May 1915, and joined the Worcestershire Regiment as a Second Lieutenant. He arrived at the Western Front in June 1915, and was killed barely a fortnight later, on 29 June 1915. He was 19 years old.

Frederick Clarke is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Jersey branch.
