Reginald William Clifford was born on 12 October 1899, the son of John William Clifford, a railway 'tourist' clerk, and Alice Clifford. In April 1916, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for The National Bank.
Clifford later left his job in the bank's London head office secretary's department to join the army, serving as a Private in the London Regiment. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 30 August 1918. He was 18 years old.
Reginald Clifford is commemorated on a bank war memorial at the Royal Bank of Scotland London Cavendish Square branch.
