Richard Poyntz Cockle was born in 1897, the only son of Richard Poyntz Cockle, a commercial traveller, and his wife Mary Alice. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Bristol Clifton Old Bank branch.

 

During the First World War Cockle joined the army, becoming a Driver in the Royal Field Artillery. He died on 24 January 1917. He was 19 years old.

 

Richard Cockle is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
