Thomas Purcell Clarke was born on 7 June 1892, the son of Henry James Clarke and his wife Mary. In September 1909, when he was 17 years old, Clarke went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

 

At the outbreak of war in 1914 Clarke left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Ealing branch to join the army. Lieutenant Thomas Purcell Clarke of the York and Lancaster Regiment was killed in action in France on 30 September 1916. He was 24 years old.

 

Thomas Clarke is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Ealing branch.
