Alexander Davidson was born on 11 April 1899, the son of Alexander Davidson, a marine engineer, and his wife Sarah. In May 1914, when he was 15 years old, he went to work for National Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Glasgow Crosshill branch.

 

During the First World War Davidson joined the army, serving as a Private in the Highland Light Infantry. He was killed in action in France on 29 September 1918. He was 19 years old.

 

Alexander Davidson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Gogarburn campus, Edinburgh
