Arthur Francis Dean was born in Wigan in 1893, the son of Joseph and Lavinia Dean. In about 1910 he went to work for Parr's Bank. About two years later his younger brother Norman also joined the bank.
During the First World War Dean left his job at the bank's Wigan branch to join the army. Lance Corporal Arthur Francis Dean of the Manchester Regiment was killed in action on the Somme on 24 March 1918. He was 24 years old. His younger brother Norman, also an employee of Parr's Bank, was killed in action in France six months later.
Arthur Dean is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Wigan branch.
