Clement Dix

Bank: Union of London & Smiths Bank

Place of work: Sheffield Union Bank branch

Died: 18 March 1917

Clement Peirce Dix was born on 18 December 1886. He was educated at Tideswell Grammar School and Sheffield Grammar School. In May 1903, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for London & Yorkshire Bank on a two-month trial at its Sheffield branch. At around the same time, that bank was acquired by Union of London & Smiths Bank, and it was with this employer that Dix spent the rest of his banking career.

In November 1914 Dix left his post as a clerk at the bank's Sheffield Union Bank branch to join the army, serving in the York and Lancaster Regiment. He was promoted to Lance Corporal in June 1915. He died in France on 18 March 1917. He was 30 years old and left a widow, Mabel, whom he had married almost exactly two years earlier.

Clement Dix is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
