Clifford Thomas Davies was born on 3 January 1894, the son of David Davies, a clerk for London County Council, and his wife Clara. In November 1910, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as an apprentice at its chief London office. He also joined the bank's staff sports club.

 

During the First World War Davies joined the army. By the time of his death in 1917 he was a Second Lieutenant in The Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). He died in Belgium on 7 June 1917. He was 23 years old.

 

Clifford Davies is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
