Evan Davies

Bank: National Provincial Bank of England

Place of work: Barry Docks branch

Died: 26 March 1917

Evan Walter Davies was born in Wales on 16 November 1893, the son of a farmer. He had a cousin who worked for National Provincial Bank of England at its Pontypool branch, and it was possibly through this connection that he secured an apprenticeship with the bank, starting work at its Tenby branch in June 1910, when he was 16 years old. He completed his apprenticeship three years later, and became a clerk, still at Tenby. In February 1914 he moved to Barry Docks branch, where his manager described him as 'a useful all-round clerk, cheerful disposition and easy to work with.'

During the First World War Davies joined the army. By the time of his death in 1917 he was serving as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He was killed in action in Palestine on 26 March 1917. He was 23 years old.
