Harry Harding Davies was born on 16 March 1898, the son of William Davies, a commercial traveller, and his wife Sarah. He was educated at Ruabon County Grammar School.

 

In June 1914, when Davies was 16 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as an apprentice at its Bristol branch. His manager there described him as 'a youth of good promise, excellent writer and painstaking.'

 

During the First World War Davies joined the army, and by the time of his death in 1917 was a Second Lieutenant in the South Wales Borderers. He was killed in action in France on 10 November 1917. He was 19 years old.
