Joseph Doran

Joseph Patrick Doran was born in Southampton in 1880, the son of William Doran, a shipwright, and his wife Sarah. From about 1899 he worked for Parr's Bank. He was also a member of the bank's staff sports club.

 

In July 1917 Doran left his job in the bank's London Bartholomew Lane office to join the Royal Naval Air Service (later the Royal Air Force). After training he was drafted to Malta, and stationed at Calafranca. Private Doran of the Royal Air Force died there on 1 October 1918. He had been suffering from influenza, which had developed into pneumonia. He was 38 years old.

 

Joseph Doran is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
