Leonard Dickinson was born on 29 April 1885, the son of Richard and Mary Catherine Dickinson. In January 1902 he went to work for Manchester & County Bank.

 

In September 1914 Dickinson left his job at the bank's Manchester head office to join the army, serving initially in the Rifle Brigade. He was later commissioned into the York and Lancaster Regiment. Second Lieutenant Leonard Dickinson was killed in action in France on 11 April 1918. He was 32 years old and left a widow, Hilda.
