Leslie James George Davis was born in Clifton, Bristol, on 25 February 1889, the son George William Lessey Davis, a master mariner, and his wife Florence Elizabeth. He went to work for National Provincial Bank of England in about 1905, and by 1910 was a clerk at the bank's Clifton branch. He later moved to Bath branch.

 

During the First World War Davis joined the army. By the time of his death in 1918 he was a Second Lieutenant in The Buffs (East Kent Regiment). He died in France on 5 April 1918, leaving a widow, Evelyn Mary. He was 29 years old.
