Wilfrid Ernest Dyer was born on 19 September 1894, the son of the Reverend Edward Dyer, a baptist minister, and his wife Annie. In February 1912, when he was 17 years old, Dyer went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

 

In November 1915 Dyer left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Hounslow branch to join the army, becoming a Private in the Royal Fusiliers. He was killed in action in Belgium on 27 September 1917. He was 23 years old.
