Arthur John Edwards was born in Exeter in 1897, the son of Arthur Bradbear Edwards, a tax assessor and collector, and his wife Ada Elizabeth. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Exeter Exeter Bank branch.
During the First World War Edwards joined the army, serving as a Rifleman in the King's Royal Rifle Corps. He died in France on 23 April 1917. He was 19 years old.
Arthur Edwards is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
