Harold Samuel Elphick was born on 5 September 1894, the son of the Reverend James S Elphick and his wife Ada Margaret. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its London Princes Street head office.

 

During the First World War Elphick joined the army, serving as a Private in the Wiltshire Regiment. He died in France on 23 August 1918. He was 23 years old.

 

Harold Elphick is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office and on another held at NatWest Group Archives, on which his name is mistakenly recorded as LS Elphick.
