John Errington

John Birkett Errington was born on 1 April 1898, the only son of Thomas Errington, a bank worker, and his wife Jane Anne. He was educated at North Eastern County School, Barnard Castle. By February 1915, when Errington started his working life, his father was manager of National Provincial Bank of England's Loftus branch. Errington went to work for the same bank, as apprentice at Middlesbrough branch.

 

In January 1917, 18-year-old Errington left the bank to join the army, serving as a Private in the Honourable Artillery Company. He was killed in action in France on 9 October 1917.
