John Victor Evans

John Victor Evans was born in Denbighshire in December 1896, the son of John and Maria Evans. In about 1914 he went to work for Parr's Bank.

 

In November 1915 Evans left his job at the bank's Chester branch to join the army, serving as a Private in the Cheshire Regiment. He went to France in 1916, and was wounded twice in the course of 1917. He was killed in action on the Somme on 24 March 1918. He was 21 years old.

 

John Victor Evans is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Chester Eastgate Street branch.
