Norman Elliot was born on 5 May 1881, the son of Robert and Alice Elliot. His father worked for National Provincial Bank of England in its Manchester office and, later, as manager of Spalding branch.

 

Norman Elliot started work for National Provincial Bank of England in June 1898, initially as an apprentice at the bank's Boston branch. He transferred to Birmingham branch in February 1899 and continued there after completing his apprenticeship. In April 1906 he moved to the bank's London office, then to West Hartlepool branch in August 1911 and to Bishop Auckland branch in September 1915.

 

Elliot joined the army during the First World War. Private Elliot of The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment) was severely wounded in action in France on 4 October 1917, and died of his wounds on 16 November 1917. He was 36 years old.
