Andrew Falconer was born on 1 December 1892, the son of James Falconer. In April 1909, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for National Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Dundee branch. He became a clerk there in April 1914.

 

During the First World War Falconer left the bank to join the army, serving as a Private in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action on the Somme on 23 March 1918. He was 25 years old.
