Bertram Thomas Alexander Forrest was born in Midlothian on 7 March 1881, the son of John Primrose Bertram Forrest, a bank worker, and his wife Isabella. Like his father, Forrest became a banker, working for the Royal Bank of Scotland.
During the First World War Forrest left his job at the bank's Edinburgh Stockbridge branch to go on military service. Second Lieutenant Forrest of the Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) was killed in Palestine on 27 December 1917. He was 36 years old.
Bertram Forrest is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
