Douglas Asquith Fowler was born in Harrogate in 1898, the son of William H Fowler, a coachmaker, and his wife Edith. He worked for National Provincial Bank of England at its Harrogate District Bank branch.

 

During the First World War Fowler joined the army, serving as a Private in the Honourable Artillery Company. He died in Belgium on 8 October 1917. He was 19 years old.
