Harold Freeman

Harold Francis Freeman was born on 27 April 1885, the son of the Reverend Frederick William Freeman and his wife Georgiana. On New Year's Day 1903 Freeman went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank, and Freeman became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

 

In January 1917 Freeman left his job as a clerk at the bank's Haslemere branch to join the army, serving as a Private in the Machine Gun Corps. He was killed in action on 17 October 1917, when his gun emplacement was hit by enemy fire. He was 32 years old.
