John Firth

John Stanley Firth was born on 28 January 1898, the son of Stanley Firth, an electrical engineer, and his wife Elizabeth May. He was educated at High Pavement Secondary School, Nottingham.

 

In February 1915, when Firth was 17 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as apprentice at its Nottingham branch. His manager there described him as 'very willing and always tries to do his best.'

 

During the First World War Firth joined the army. Second Lieutenant John Stanley Firth of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment was killed in France on 9 October 1917. He was 19 years old.
